Philip Roholt, MD, ABES

Refractive & Lens Implant Surgery
Dr. RoholtDr. Philip Roholt received his undergraduate and medical degrees from the University of Minnesota. His ophthalmology residency was at the University of Florida. He was certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology in 1985 and was one of the first ophthalmologists in the country to be certified in the subspecialty of cataract/lens implant surgery (1989) and refractive surgery (1995) by the American Board of Eye Surgery (ABES). In March 2000 he received certification by the Council for Refractive Surgery Quality Assurance (CRSQA), and most recently received LASIK certification by the American Board of Eye Surgery. He is the ONLY surgeon in Ohio to be LASIK certified by CRSQA, and the only eye surgeon in the country to be TRIPLE certified by ABES (lens implant, incisional refractive, and LASIK).

Dr. Roholt began his career in 1984 with the intention of building the premier refractive surgery/lens implant practice in the Midwest. He began performing RK for myopia in 1985, while perfecting his general eye surgery skills. Dr. Roholt has been at the vanguard of refractive surgery advancements in the United States. He was the first in Northeast Ohio to perform ALK for myopia and hyperopia in 1993 and received a national award for his landmark paper concerning corneal lamellar surgery in 1995. He was the first surgeon in Ohio to perform LASIK for myopia and hyperopia in 1996, the first in Northeast Ohio to perform INTACSfor myopia in 1999, and the first in Ohio to perform Zyoptix wavefront-guided LASIK in 2003 and Verisyse implant in 2004 . On March 28, 2006, Dr. Roholt was the first physician in NE Ohio to perform the Visian ICL procedure.   Dr. Roholt formed Roholt Vision Institute(RVI) in 2001. His role in RVI is to continue the advancement of quality refractive, LASIK, and lens implant surgery. Dr. Roholt along with partners Dr. Brian Mathie and Dr. David Roncone also provide consultation/ management of eye disease.

Dr. Roholt was named "Ophthalmologist of the Year" by the Optometric Refractive Surgery Society in 1999.

Brian E. Mathie, O.D., F.A.A.O.

Dr. MathieDr. Brian Mathie has returned to his roots to take care of the patients of northeast Ohio. After graduating first in his class at Louisville High School, he attended the Ohio State University and studied microbiology. He is a graduate of the Ohio State University College of Optometry and completed a residency specializing in ocular disease at the Columbus and Chillicothe VA Medical Centers.

The son of a teacher, Dr. Mathie feels very strongly about education. From educating patients about various ocular conditions to lecturing nationally and internationally on the topics of ocular disease or refractive surgery, Dr Mathie appreciates the value of knowledge and enjoys sharing it with others. He is an adjunct faculty member with the Ohio State University College of Optometry and a senior examiner for the National Board of Optometry Clinical Examinations. He served as president of the Ohio Optometric Association in 2004. His extensive experience in treating glaucoma, ocular infections and inflammation, and managing cataract and refractive surgery patients allows for thorough patient explanations.

Dr. Mathie also appreciates the value of serving his community in nonmedical avenues as he is a Rotary member (past president), YMCA board member, active parishioner and Sunday school teacher, youth sports coach and school volunteer. Dr Mathie's hobbies include golf, tennis, basketball, photography and spending quality family time with his wife and three children.

David P. Roncone, O.D., F.A.A.O.

Consultation & Outcomes Analysis
Dr. RonconeDr. David Roncone completed his undergraduate work at Case Western University with a degree in Chemistry and Communication Science. He is a graduate of the OSU College of Optometry, where he received Scholarships from OSU and from the Ohio Vision Foundation. Dr. Roncone did a year long residency at the Louis Stokes VA Medical Center as consultant for eye disease and ocular emergencies, and has had training at CWRU Retina, Neuroopththalmology, and Glaucoma Clinics.

Dr. Roncone has presented his work at the East/West Eye Conference, SECO Eye Conference, and other optometric venues. He is a member of the American Academy of Optometry, American Optometric Association, Youngstown Lions Club, YSU Ice Castle Scholarship Fun, Ohio Vision Foundation, Glenwood EXCEL Mentorship Program, and the Pacentrano Club.

Dr. Roncone was elected Zone 4 Governor of the Ohio Optometric Association (2004-2005).

Dr. Roncone is Director of Outcomes Analysis at Roholt Vision Institute (RVI). "RVI is one of the few LASIK centers in the Midwest which really analyzes patient postoperative data so as to continually strive for improved results," Dr. Roncone stated, "I enjoy applying my talents for the improvement of patients' vision and overall happiness." Dr. Roncone is available for consultation and management of refractive surgery, cataract, macular degeneration, glaucoma and other eye diseases.
